Custom room suites — made to your dimensions — built to period

For collectors building specific historic interiors in scale — custom dollhouse interiors, bespoke room boxes, French room box commissions, custom miniature boiserie and wall panelling, miniature fireplace surrounds, and complete architectural room suites. Every Atelier commission begins with the room — its dimensions, its period, its architecture. Lead times are determined by project scope and discussed at the proposal stage. What is delivered is not a component. It is a designed interior.

The Practice

Architecture at every scale.

The Atelier is the bespoke division of Northside Modelworks, reserved for collectors who require something beyond the ready collection. All commissions are handled personally, drawing on a professional background in interior architecture and design.

Work focuses on 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century Continental European interiors. All design is grounded in primary sources: period engravings, architectural pattern books, and surviving museum examples. The result is not merely a smaller version of something — it is a studied interpretation, proportioned correctly and designed to read as convincingly at 1:12 scale as the original reads in life.

Finishing services for standard collection pieces are also available through The Atelier. Enquire directly with the pieces you would like finished and your intended period finish.

Interior Architecture Background

Professional practice background bringing full-scale design methodology, CAD drafting, and material research to miniature work.

17th–19th Century Specialisation

Deep expertise in Continental European decorative arts. Every commission researched against period sources — not adapted from modern references.

ABS-Like Resin Production

Designs produced in high-detail ABS-like resin — durable, sandable, and fully receptive to standard primers and finishes.

Designed in Chicago

All design work, research, and production management is handled in-house. Direct relationship with every client from enquiry to delivery.

The Commission Process

How a commission unfolds

01

Initial Enquiry

Use the contact form to describe your project — a specific element, a period, a room scheme, or a direction. A response is made personally within 48 hours, with any initial questions about dimensions, references, and goals.

02

Research & Proposal

The brief is researched against primary period sources and a written proposal is prepared — including historical provenance, design intentions, dimensions, materials, and a fixed price. No obligation to proceed. Lead time is confirmed at this stage.

03

Digital Design & Approval

On acceptance of the proposal and receipt of the design deposit, full digital drawings are prepared and shared for your review. One round of revisions is included. Production does not begin until the design is approved in writing.

04

Production & Delivery

Pieces are produced in ABS-like resin, cleaned, and inspected. Shipped internationally, fully insured and tracked. Each commission ships with a provenance document — research notes, sources, and design drawings. The history of the piece travels with it.
